whatsupwednesdayWhat’s Up Wednesday is a weekly meme for writers and readers, meant to give us a quick way to touch base with bloggy friends and let them know what’s up.

It’s hosted by Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk.

What I’m reading:

I have been reading like a madwoman the past few weeks. It has been awesome. A couple weeks ago, I went to Seeley Lake (where 99 Days of Laney MacGuire takes place), and while I was there, I read eight books in eight days. I’ve been so, so busy the past few months that I haven’t been able to read as much as I like, so it was so refreshing to just dive into book after book after book. Call me dorky, but it was really fun updating my Books Read in 2014 page with all those title. :)

Right now, I’ve got The Geography of You and Me in hardback. Is Jennifer E. Smith the greatest or what? I love her stories, her characters, her writing. I just adore it.

My audio book of the moment is Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein. It is brilliant. I am not loving it as much as Code Name Verity, but I think that’s the narrator more than the story. Maybe. Code Name Verity is hard to meet.

What I’m writing:

Brand new super shiny top secret project. I can’t even remember the last time I was this over the moon about a book I was writing. Maybe with the first draft of 99 Days of Laney MacGuire way back in summer of 2010? This book makes me so giddy. I can’t even get enough of it. I’m not saying much yet, but you can get a pretty good idea about the book by checking out my Pinterest inspiration board:

Follow Rachel’s board Someone Else’s Summer on Pinterest.

What inspires me:

Summer. Sun. Light breezes. Sand between my toes. Water in my hair. The smell of asphalt just after it rains.

Is there anything better than summer?

What else I’ve been up to:

Enjoying the summer as much as possible. Traveling. Going to concerts. (Did I mention how amazing McCartney was?!) Spending way more time than I ever want to on the phone with banks. (Our house, because of the lease and the 40 acres and the type of construction, has to have very unique financing. Lots of hoops to jump through. Lots of phone calls. Lots of paperwork. Pretty much a lot of annoying stuff that I don’t want to deal with but will because I really love that house.)
